Question:
Esselamu alaykum! Dear Professor, I have noticed that recently appeared a phenomenon, with several brothers and pray together after midnight nightly congregational prayer, the imam respectively. What interests me is to know whether this practice is based on sources of our religion and is practiced it at the time of the companions? I also want to learn the position of the Hanafi madhhab about forgiveness supererogatory prayers in congregation?
Answer:
Bismil-lahirr-rrahmanirr-beat
Dear, in your question you have the question of the night prayer, the prayer which the science of fiqh terminology is known as "al-tehexhudi salaatu". Tahajjud notion, derived from the word "Al-Huxhudu" that the meaning of this word and Ibn Abu Ubaydah Arabia say that this expression has two opposite meanings are: Awakening from sleep, and sleeping. But the notion Tahajjud in terms of Sharia Islamic terminology means: "Awakening from sleep to pray Isha prayer after prayer, (especially after midnight), that is the night prayer."
This type of prayer is sunnah especially blessed nights or special emphasis during the last ten nights of Ramadaan. Prophet s.a.v.s. for this kind of prayer said: "Prayer after Fardh more valuable is the night prayer" (Muslim)
Regarding the prayer, the prayer should pray at home because for this kind of prayer, night prayer so no narration that the Prophet SAW have gathered or have invited people to forgive Tehexhudit prayer (night prayer) in congregation. Such action have not practiced or companions (of the Prophet's companions). On the basis of this and many other arguments, madhhab Hanafi scholars have formulated the position that this type of prayer congregational prayers in mosques or home is heinous act (makruh), because it is contrary to the practice of the Prophet, companions and the general principles of Islam. [1]
So this is the position of Islam on this issue, namely about the supererogatory prayers with the congregation, although here and there you may encounter an opinion that is allowed, provided that it be completely spontaneous and disorganized, in the otherwise scholars are unique that night prayer is to pray with the congregation hated.
For in the end just to remind you that these people who do this action, their goal is probably clean, but their action is contrary to the Sunnah and the practice of the Prophet, even if this practice does not comply, then certainly after that hide other purposes. Here there is also an element that is mentioned in passing, that in these congregations in a mosque, to pray the prayer of the night, the women go, scholars say that the women going to the mosque at regular times is unwelcome act (makruh) then getting them at this time, after midnight is prohibited action.
Allah knows best!
